Investor Solutions Veteran Scholarship

William Clark (M.S. in Commerce ’12), a student in the M.S. in Commerce Program at the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce, has been selected as this year’s recipient of the Investor Solutions Veteran Scholarship. The $10,000 scholarship, which is awarded annually to an incoming graduate student in one of the School’s three outstanding graduate programs, is specifically designated for U.S. military combat veterans. Recipients of the scholarship must have been honorably discharged and must demonstrate financial need.
“In establishing this scholarship, we are pleased to support students in McIntire’s prestigious, nationally recognized graduate programs, and we are proud to honor our nation’s veterans,” says U.Va. alumnus Francis C. “Frank” Armstrong III (A&S ’66), President and Founder of Investor Solutions Inc. Armstrong himself is a Vietnam veteran.

Clark, who hopes to start his own business upon graduation, joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 2005 as a rifleman. First stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Clark was later deployed to Iraq, where he served in Fallujah, Diyala, Ramadi, and Basra. He was awarded a Combat Action Ribbon for his actions under enemy fire.

“I am honored to have received this generous award from Investor Solutions,” says Clark, noting that although G.I. Bill benefits cover the Program’s tuition, the scholarship will help defray other critical expenses, particularly those associated with participating in the Program’s mandatory four-week Global Immersion Experience. “This scholarship means that I won’t have to scrimp and save for the year-long duration of the Program,” Clark says. “I’ll really be able to focus on my schoolwork, instead of worrying about money.” Notably, Clark has been able to stretch his G.I. Bill benefits by completing his undergraduate degree, also from U.Va., in just two years.

“We are extremely grateful to Investor Solutions for their generous support of McIntire’s graduate programs and students, and we look forward to working with them in the future to honor deserving veterans as scholarship recipients,” says McIntire Dean Carl Zeithaml.

Clark was selected for the scholarship by a committee composed of McIntire faculty members and a representative from Investor Solutions.
